Another summer has passed and our amazing Lexi hasn't disappointed us.
Throughout the summer Lexi has visited often. So much so my wife and I have resumed watching for him constantly. Heaven forbid me miss one of his 1am visits to the Barn! He was sometimes alone but most often was accompanied by another yearling buck or a young doe with her first ever fawn (she is literally 1/2 the size of Lexi. It appears that Lexi's gentle nature appeals to many of the deer in our area.
Averaging 3-4 nights a week my wife has accumulated many, many hours with her beloved Lexi. Gayle is still able to groom him, treat his little scratches, rub his ears, and of course hug him constantly. Lexi hates the smell of his tick treatment even though it has helped him attain his almost 170lbs of beautiful fur and rippling muscle.
Lexi disappeared the third week of September and by the fourth night Gayle was worried and our late and sleepless nights returned. Research told us that fall is "fattening up" time for deer and they often retreat to areas where Oak trees are shedding their acorns. This proved to be true and as predicted Lexi returned on the 11th. night sporting a beautiful layer of fat and a glistening winter coat. For three consecutive nights now Lexi has returned to visit Mommy and all is well.
We printed 150 Lexi fliers and distributed them throughout the surrounding area.
We are also offering free NO HUNTING signs to those who need them. We are getting excellent support from our neighbors. We have managed to "Mark"
Lexi with some safe animal green paint and have prepared two red ribbons that will be Velcroed to his antlers during his next visit.
Please chech back for updates soon!

Lexi has been paint marked twice by us in the event he wanders beyond the immediate area.
Today I was visited by my closest neighbor who is the retired assistant Police Chief and a life-long avid hunter.
Tom and his brother Bill without any encouragement from me have been working diligently, doing everything they can to help get Lexi through this hunting season. Tom, who just underwent leg surgery last week, walked our sixty acres in the early am in search of unlawful hunters. Tom came across two of them trying to sneak into our no hunting zone . One fled immediately while the other stayed and alone, incurred the wrath of Tom . My wife and I couldn't ask for finer neighbors and if Lexi gets through this period we will have the brothers Tom and Bill to thank for it.
Lexi and his story have touched many lives but to win over our neighbor brothers is one of his finest accomplishments. We're very lucky to have them and heaven help the next sneaky hunter who crosses their path.
My wife and Granddaughter just finished a wonderful visit from Lexi tonight. He is sooo gentle with the girls who he allows to groom and hug him closely. Interestingly enough Tom told me this morning he can no Longer approach Lexi after a full summer of almost daily visits to the food plots Tom had planted for him in the spring. Tom doesn't take it personally and thinks that very soon only my wife will remain in his inner circle.
Lexi loves being a deer and we are so thankful for yet another summer gone by that was filled with his special visits.

WINTER OF 2017-2018 UPDATE
Thanksgiving marked the most recent visit from Lexi. Gayle and I have made several treks throughout the woods reinforcing and placing more "No Hunting" signs. I don;t think we could have done a better job as word has spread that this is Lexi's home range and all the neighbors have been very supportive.

It's now the end of January and Gayle is desperate for a visit but will settle for a confirmed sighting. But just like last year with his Deer MOM, Lexi disappeared all winter without visiting until late March.
There is little cover for Deer in our field and surrounding woods. Just 500 yards up the street there are many sightings of deer including yearling bucks that have "Herded up" following their first Rut.
Several people who know Lexi well have indicated confidence that Lexi was among them. I so wish we had fitted him with a break-away collar this year also!
Coyotes have been very active for the last month and have recently started to pack-up locally. Thankfully the woods abound with plenty of rabbits and squirrels, and Lexi who is probably 175 lbs now would be difficult prey with his youth and speed.
We are confident in his skills and unrelenting determination to be an adult Deer, but that's not to say we wouldn't be thrilled to have a "special" mid winter visit! Chance are we'll be waiting until spring again but that doesn't mean we aren't constantly watching for him .......both day and night!
We will continue to update this site.
